I’m glad I didn’t have to delete anyone from facebook for making a ridiculously stupid status about the race of the man who killed the soldier in South London yesterday.
If it was a white guy who’d killed the soldier on the street the headlines would read “unidentified man kills british soldier…” Rather than “unidentified muslim kills british soldier”.
It’s 2013 and people still aren’t understanding something that is so simple. I shouldn’t be pleasantly surprised at the lack of ignorant statuses really, that shouldn’t be a thing.
It’s absolutely terrifying that a few ignorant headlines and generalisations by the media has conjured up so much hatred. It’s an awful reality that murder happens every day, this was a murder, not a terrorist attack. I can’t even fathom how the story was allowed to be twisted and manipulated in such a way that would then go on to promote such retaliation. The mindset of people who believe that this murderer represents all muslims is so far beyond insane, I genuinely thought people were kidding. It’s like saying all men in Ohio want to kidnap you and keep you hostage for 10 years. All of them. Don’t go to Germany, everyone’s a nazi. Steer clear of churches, in fact, steer clear of the entirety of America cos every christian you’ll ever meet is a part of the Ku Klux Klan. No. Just no. Don’t be dumb. Plleaaaasse don’t be dumb
those who know me well are fully aware of one of the most hideous nights of my life. New Years Eve 2011/New Years morning 2012.
Somewhere between 3 and 5 am I found myself dancing at people wearing a Kimono. I remember one girl in particular because I waltzed over to her asking “is this fashion?” and whether she was “made… in chelsea?”. I’m not proud of my grotesque behaviour, although it does paint a brilliant picture and makes for a good story… so maybe a bit proud
I always felt a little bit bad about targeting her that night, a stranger who doesn’t know my humour at all.
Now I can continue guilt free as she’s made the cover of i-D magazine!
